LaPour Partners has graciously allowed the College of Southern Nevada - Cheyenne Campus display the works of 11 student - designer/artists from their final project entitled: IMPRESSIONS. Professional designer and business owner of M3 Advertising Design, Dan McElhattan III was given an opportunity to teach a semester of design at CSN - Cheyenne Campus. The opportunity was an enormous responsibility and challenge since Dan was not impressed with the student portfolios coming from tech schools or local colleges and would reject interviews based on the lack of creativity. “They lacked the creative and insightfulness that other designers were exhibiting in their portfolios.” Now the harsh critic had to become the teacher who’s responsibility was to alter this outcome. “It was time to roll up my sleeves and see if I could teach them what I have learned and how to embrace their passions.” “The students in this class had solid foundations and needed a creative playground to expand their thoughts and artistic endeavors.”
For the GRC 207 electronic design class of Spring 2009, the students were challenged with a tailored project for a greater cause. To design a poster that expresses their favorite quotation. The cause was to see if the talent at a local College can rise to the occasion and leave a lasting impression. The direction for the students was to design a poster that they would be proud to purchase and hang in their homes. A design that would leave a lasting Impression for the audience viewing the design. Their concept would not be graded as a final exam but judged by leading business owners, patron of the arts, local photographers, entrepreneurs and managers of companies that embrace design as a marketing tool. A private invitation was sent to 35 judges to attend for review and critique the final posters. On these walls are those works of art from the due diligence of the future designers of our community.
